Dear Clients,
EMERGENCY FUEL SURCHARGES (DOMESTIC & INTERNATIONAL FREIGHT IMPACT) - MAR-26
The middle east conflict has now entered its second week, and the conflict zones are expanding. Iran has threatened vessel passage for vessels operating via the Strait of Hormuz and already attacked tankers which has effectively closed the Strait for shipping. The Strait of Hormuz handles around 20% of global oil shipments which has lead to the sharp spike in world oil prices over the last few days.
As a result of this, we have started to see shipping lines, airlines and local truckers start to advise of increases to fuel surcharges.
Domestic Trucking:
Effective from Monday 16th March, the fuel surcharge applicable to cartage services will move from a monthly adjustment to a weekly adjustment.
Fuel surcharge increases have averaged out at 8% for the week commencing 16th March.
- For FCL cartage services, we will be applying an EMERGENCY FUEL SURCHARGE of AUD 40.00 per container.
- For LCL and airfreight cartage services, we will be applying an EMERGENCY FUEL SURCHARGE of $5 per WM (MIN $15)
International Air & Ocean:
Emergency Fuel Surcharges for international air and ocean shipments will be levied back-to-back with carrier rate adjustments.
We are seeing Shipping lines apply anywhere between USD75-500 per 20'/ USD150-1000 per 40' pending the trade lane.
Common trade lanes ex CHINA and S.E.Asia are around the USD75-300 per 20' / USD150-600 per 40'.
In most cases, these fees are being levied onto bookings that are yet to depart. Therefore, if you have upcoming bookings, your freight rate may be impacted.
Once fuel price movements stabilise and market conditions normalise, we expect these Emergency Fuel Surcharge to be removed as carriers remove them.
Should you wish to discuss any of these points, please don't hesitate to reach out to your key contact @ Transways Logistics International.
