Dear Clients,
PEAK SEASON SURCHARGE (PSS) NOTIFICATION - JUL-25
As we approach the traditional peak shipping season, we wish to advise that major shipping lines have indicated plans to implement a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) across key trade lanes from North Asia and Southeast Asia to Australia effective 15th July.
The introduction of the peak season surcharge is a little earlier than normal. One of the main reasons for this, in the present market, the North Asia to Australia trade is amongst the lowest yielding trade lanes for the shipping lines. They are still able to command much higher ocean freight rates from North Asia to the US and EU than to Australia. Therefore, the aim of bringing in the peak season surcharge is an attempt to stabilise freight rates to ensure the Australian trade lane doesn't continue to lose services and tonnage to other higher yielding trade lanes.
The quantum being advised is between USD 300-500/20' and USD 600-1000/40'.
The market will very much determine if the PSS does come into effect and if it does, at what rate level. As always, Transways will only be adjusting your pricing should the carriers apply the PSS.
Should you wish to discuss any of these points, please don't hesitate to reach out to your key contact @ Transways Logistics International.
