Dear Clients,

NATIONAL PORT DISRUPTIONS AS PATRICKS TERMINAL & MUA STILL NO RESOLVE

Patrick Terminals have advised of nationwide strike action during the peak pre-Christmas freight period. This will consist of strikes, work bans and rolling industrial action across our nation with Melbourne Terminal seeing the worst of these actions - the effects looking like the following;

  • Patricks East Swanson Melbourne Terminal is set to be hardest hit, with closures every Monday, Wednesday and Friday – with impacts on other
    days throughout the month of October. This will equate to approx.. 40 new industrial action notifications.
  • Patricks Port Botany Sydney Terminal – 48hr strike action, Labour Day long weekend 2-3 October 2021
  • Patricks Brisbane and Fremantle Terminals will have continued work performance and overtime bans.

The negotiations between Patricks and MUA have been ongoing for 19 months, since FEB 2020 with nearly 70 meetings with no enterprise agreement or settlement reached. The impacts likely to be faced;
  • Increased vessel berthing delays,
  • Import / Export collection & lodgement disruptions,
  • Port congestion
  • Possibility of vessel rotation changes and / or port omittion, due to congestion
  • Import transhipment delays and "rolled" export consignments,
  • Shipping Lines apply surcharges.

We will continue to monitor the situation and update on any movements or action in this situation. Do not hesitate to reach out to Transways team for further clarification or with any questions.

Kind regards,
