Dear Clients,

As you have all read previously, ocean carriers (shipping lines) must comply with new international standards from 1st JANUARY 2020 in relation to the percentage of sulphur in the fuel they utilise.

Previously 3.5% was acceptable, however the new standard is set at 0.5%. Excluding zones that are already at 0.1%.

Carriers have been advising market for the past year, that these changes will have significant cost impact on their operation, which they would pass onto industry and finally they have released firm figures, in the past week.

Below is a table for easy reference based on the amount carriers will charge for the LOW SULPHUR SURCHARGE (LSS) from 1st DECEMBER 2019 ex ASIA origin.

The amounts listed will be on top of the MARKET OCEAN FREIGHT RATE you are currently paying. As Ocean freight rates have not been released for DEC as yet, final freight quotations cannot be issued at this time, but will be provided towards the end of the month.

Carries will be reviewing on monthly or quarterly basis, so as rates adjust, Transways Logistics International will provide updates to you.

**OOCL originally advised market the rate would be USD65 per 20’ / USD130 per 40’ but on FRI 7th NOV, they issued a notice advising that an error was made and the correct amount is USD110 per 20’ / USD220 per 40’**
