Sulphur Limit -  Shipping Line Fuel Calculations

Effective 1st JANUARY 2020 the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will be applying new limits on the amount of Sulphur a vessel (VSL) operator can have in its fuel.

Currently it’s limited to 3.5%, but effective from 1st JAN 2020 it will be reduced to 0.5% under the IMO2020 regulation.  These new measures are aimed at reducing the environmental impact caused by international shipping.

Transways Logistics International has received notice from 3 x ocean carriers (MAERSK / MSC / HAPAG) to date, whom have advised that they will be implementing changes to the manner in which they calculate fuel (bunker) commencing 1st JANUARY 2019 to take into effect these new regulations.

No firm figures have been supplied as yet from these carriers, simply the calculation methods which all differ slightly.   You may read the attached newsletters which share further information on this subject.

Transways Logistics International will provide further information once details are on hand.

Kindest regards
