(*LONGDATE*)

Dear (*CONTACTSALUTATION*)

Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) UPDATE

Who does this affect - All Importers.

Level of importance - HIGH

With the BMSB season fully under way, many importers have experienced issues surrounding this matter.  It is not only affecting importers from BMSB countries, but clients whom require standard quarantine documentation clearance.  Please see below updated information;

  • The department of Agriculture & Water Resources, have been found to be under resourced which has caused at times, lengthy delays on Quarantine clearances.

    They have now advised that all NON essential tasks are on hold as they deal with the Peak Season (estimated 30-35% increase in job volume) + BSMB season.

    Quarantine entries are being delayed which could lead to additional costs (storage / container detention).

  • Emerging Countries -   Countries that were not originally listed as target regions are now being monitored and are having "RANDOM" onshore inspections and treatment.

There is no firm list of "EMERGING COUNTRIES" at the current time, but industry bodies understand the dept. of Agriculture and Water resources have broken the target regions as below;

  •
    •
      • Target Risk Countries (highest level of surveillance / treatment / inspection)

        USA / Italy / Germany / France / Russia / Greece / Hungary / Romania / Georgia / Japan.

      • Other European countries + some Northern Asian countries (random inspections)

      • Rest of the world (lower level of random inspections).

Due to the above points, Transways recommends that all cargo moving ex "TARGET RISK COUNTRIES" have treatment completed offshore, as local treatment providers are struggling to handle the significant increase in goods requiring treatment (fumigation).

Should you have any questions regarding this matter, please contact your local Transways Logistics International Office.
